Introduction

Lloyd VanderKwaak, EdD is an expert in board governance and leadership of nonprofit organizations. He has served on the boards of directors of many nonprofit human service and mental health organizations as well as several college boards of trustees located in Wisconsin, Iowa and Michigan. In many of these situations he also served as the chair of the board. Lloyd recently from ChildServe in Des Moines, Iowa where he served as the President and Chief Executive Officer from 1992 to 2018. All of these experiences have shaped his view of nonprofit governance and leadership and the importance of the governance partnership.

Lloyd has a bachelors degree in psychology and sociology from Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa, a Masters of Public Administration degree from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and a Doctorate of Education in Organization Development from the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota.

Lloyd and his wife Vicki live in Northern Michigan next to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Lloyd and Vicki are partners in a consulting and life coaching company. He is Dad to seven adults and Papa to 15 grandchildren. He has completed 24 marathons and is now training for a 25th marathon next year.
