Every nonprofit organization has a board of directors. The board is authorized by law to be the governing authority of the organization. I must point out that the board of directors might be referred to by other names such as board of governors, board of overseers, board of stewards, board of trustees. Well , you get the idea. The governing authority is the group identified in the nonprofit organization’s articles of incorporation and/or bylaws that has the authority and responsibility to ensure the mission and oversee the organization.

Boards of directors have two foundational purposes. The first is to ensure that the mission and/or purpose of the organization is achieved. The mission is the organization’s reason for existence. The mission is why the organization was incorporated and it is the reason why the board was Ray Ban outlet established in the first place.  The second purpose of the board is to oversee the organization. Whether the organization is operated by volunteers with a very small budget or has thousands of employees with a multi-million dollar budget, the board is the governing authority. As such, it  is responsible to ensure that the organization is using those human and financial resources to achieve the mission.

Boards of Directors have an awesome responsibility. Make a difference in their community and operate a healthy organization.
